Self-Motivation Part Four

If I were to ask you to describe your place of work or where you spend most of your time, what would you say? If you allow me to share with you, I spend most of my time in my home office which is always clean, with plenty of natural lighting and surrounded with earth tone colors.

Self-Motivation Part four

If I were to ask you to describe your place of work or where you spend most of your time, what would you say? If you allow me to share with you, I spend most of my time in my home office which is always clean, with plenty of natural lighting and surrounded with earth tone colors. It also contains all the accouterments necessary to accomplish my business. However, since we do not live in a perfect world, issues with my computer or internet, not to mention other distractions, occur from time to time. Therefore, to make motivation a habit, we need to minimize or avoid anything that can impede or deter our productivity.

The rule of thumb that I try to follow is, if my issue is going to take more than ten minutes, suggesting I may not have the expertise, I get someone that is more qualified to take care of the matter. Otherwise, I would be allowing exasperation to diminish my self-motivation.

Additionally, if you spend all day in an office setting, my concept is to switch position, stretch, stand, or walk every 30 to 45 minutes intervals, and at these moments reward yourself with a glass of water or something healthy. Also, with your permission, while sitting at my desk if I make a conscious effort to keep my ears directly over my shoulders, it will mitigate any neck or back pain that may distract my focus and have potential long-term repercussions. The objective is, consider your work and home setting to make the needed adjustments to augment your motivation and your daily output.

Self-Motivation Part Three

Did you know that your surroundings have an impact on how you think and feel? Studies have shown that this is unequivocally true, it is called psychogeography. How do you feel when you venture into nature?

Did you know that your surroundings have an impact on how you think and feel? Studies have shown that this is unequivocally true, it is called psychogeography. How do you feel when you venture into nature? It is not coincidental that city planners require a public urban park for a specific number of populations. Also, let me ask, would you prefer to climb a stairway that spirals or one that rigidly goes straight up? If we want motivation to become a habit, we need to consider our surroundings at our place of work or at home.

Shapes, configurations, and the contours of our surroundings have a psychological and visceral impact on all of us whether we want to admit it or not.

True, there is only so much that we can change in the matter of design around us, however, we can always add a splash of colors such as Blue, Green, Yellow, and Red of which are colors in nature, and this can have a notable implication to improve our motivation and productivity.

Blue is clean, crisp, it is the color of the heavens and encourages targeted concentration and it is my favorite color. Green, is the most prolific color in nature, it comes in a variety of shades, and it is kind to the human eye in case you need to burn the midnight oil. Yellow is emotionally warm, it promotes optimism, stimulates creativity, and gives you confidence in the outcome of your task. Red, can increase our mobility, it can sharpen our alertness and it can improve our circulatory system for physical activity when needed. Surround yourself with these colors of nature, and you will experience a stimulating effect.

What is it that inspires you? The definition of inspiration is anything that you find mentally stimulating, anything that has a positive influence in what you say or do. From a personal standpoint, I find reading exciting, especially, when it teaches me a principle I can put into practice right away, and if you have not notice, I also enjoy writing of which it tends to get my creative juices going. For many it is music, viewing or listening to a program that provokes the inner world of thought, or a stroll around the neighborhood. But whatever you do, surround yourself with what you find stimulating and motivation will become a habit.

So, how do you start your day? Make is a matter of scheduling the most challenging first thing in the morning by making a note to yourself, text, or you can always email yourself like I do, as a reminder. And you will find that the rest of the day will be smooth sailing which tends to be impelling. A degree of anxiety in of itself is really a good thing, because it serves as a great motivator. However, undue anxiety is counteractive, unhealthy, and not beneficial for our wellbeing. I try to get the most challenging task out of the way first before I do anything else, otherwise, your nervous system will start screaming at you and will get louder and louder progressively and this often makes for an elongated and unpleasant day. Let us avoid this!

Self-Motivation Part One

I do not know about you, but I invariably start my day with a hot cup of ambition. I refer to it as ambition because it motivates me, wakes me up, my mind becomes lucid, and puts me in the moment. This is part one of how we can be self-motivating and not so dependent on others or other things such as the aforementioned.

It is always best to start with the most difficult first and that is our fears. Psychologists have indicated that the most debilitating to our emotional wellbeing are our personal fears and uncertainties. Unfortunately, most people put a band-aid on their fears, but this is only ephemeral or short-lived. We must be courageous enough to identify it by putting our finger on the “real” personal challenge, and if you will note, I refer to them as challenges and not problems, because challenges can always be overcome so that we can move forward professionally and otherwise.

It is the rule that a situation that we may be experiencing is not as frightful as it appears. Once we have identified the obstacle or fear to our progress, it will put you in a position to make strides in accomplishing your goal. If you will allow me to speak plainly, we must realize that the biggest obstacle is the one between our two ears, yes, our mindset. For many of us, we find ourselves in a rut in life and remember that a rut is only a few feet from a grave. It is much like a tire that gets stuck in the groove as we travel down the road of life, and we sometimes cannot extract ourselves. So, start with this. If you have a negative thought always counteract it with a positive thought and practice this daily and strive for 21 consecutive days, for this is not a quick fix. For example, if you say, "I can't do this," finish the statement with "not yet!" Suggesting that you will eventually.
